What to do with an Old Mailbox
A common choice might be to just throw it away or maybe a better idea might be to recycle if it meets your local recycling guidelines. Another solution you may not have thought of is to repurpose that old mailbox and bring it back to life for some alternative use.
One idea is to give it a fresh point job and find a new place to put it. In the garage, next to the garden? Do you have a kids treehouse that might need one, how about storing some tools in the shed, put it next to the backyard birdfeeder to store and keep that birdseed handy. Have you ever thought about cleaning it up and putting it in the kitchen, it can hold recipes or become a bread box. Outside your kids’ room, wouldn’t it be nice to send your children little notes, they can check “their” mailbox each day for their chores (ugh!), a place to keep small toys or drawing materials, or a place to leave a nice note telling them how wonderful they are.
If you’re not feeling that creative, you can always just sand with a fine grit sandpaper and simply repaint and reinstall. Now you have a brand-new mailbox! A very simple DIY project for that rainy day. The kids can even help! Or not!
